William Hooker was the greatest fruit illustrator of his day. In 1815 the Horticultural Society of London commissioned Hooker to paint fruit grown in England to authenticate their names. More than 150 drawings form the collection known as 'HookerÂ’s Fruits', recognised as the greatest fruit drawings of all time and which now reside in the RHS Lindley Library. Faithfully reproduced from the original drawings and set off with a bold green and gilt border, the coasters feature a whole orchard of English fruit apples, pears, peaches, apricots, plums and blackcurrants.
