The work of Kristjana S Williams is inspired by traditional crafts of fine art with a distinctly Victoriana style and an aesthetic which recalls Chinese silk painting, Williams depicts vivid scenes and figures from the natural world using contemporary collage and print techniques. Her work explores the use of vibrant colour, clashing different shades and tones for a resultant harmony which is at once compelling and beautiful. ‘Tolf Fulgar’ resembles a nineteenth century botanical or natural history sketch a jumble of birds and butterflies perch elegantly upon a twisting branch. Williams uses a palette which not only modernises the image but which harmonises to impossible success indigos, turquoises, pinks and yellows have been carefully selected to create a bright, bold and beautiful aesthetic.
