Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I, 1907 is a museum quality print of the last painting in Gustav Klimt’s gold phase. Also known as The Lady in Gold or The Woman in Gold this portrait of wealthy Viennese lady and patron and close friend of Gustav Klimt Adele Bloch Bauer is a shimmering riot of gold and the panicle of Klimt’s gold paintings which also includes the Kiss. The dress and background are made up of intricate patterns all highlighted with gold leaf. After Adele Bloch Bauer’s death the painting was sized by the Nazis, and after a lengthy court battle in 2006 her niece Maria Altmann was rule the rightful owner. The painting was sold in 2006 for a record sum to Ronald Lauder for the Neue Galerie in New York City where it is still on show.
