The work of Kristjana S Williams is inspired by traditional crafts of fine art with a distinctly Victoriana style and an aesthetic which recalls Chinese silk painting, Williams depicts vivid scenes and figures from the natural world using contemporary collage and print techniques. Her work explores the use of vibrant colour, clashing different shades and tones for a resultant harmony which is at once compelling and beautiful. The strength of ‘Langi Tagl Audubon Gold Leaf’ lies in its discreet composition reminiscent of traditional Chinese art, a long, tapering bird straddles the centre of the page, offset by two clusters of blossoming flowers. A recurring motif in Williams’ work, a butterfly obscures the face of the bird, lending a slightly surreal quality to the image. Laid over a gold leaf backdrop, there is an exquisite, timeless beauty to ‘Langi Tagl Audubon’. This print is signed and numbered by the artist.
