This is but 'simple' Coteaux du Layon but in this wonderful vintage Yves Guégnard has transformed the Chenin Blanc grapes, from his Domaine de la Bergerie estate, into the epitome of all that is great about the sweet wines of the Loire valley. Generous amounts of sunshine meant the the grapes entered the autumn in in a perfect, ripe condition. The mellow end to the season saw mists rising from the Layon river and encouraging the onset of the 'noble rot' so necessary in the creation of great sweet wines. Intense sweetness balanced by fresh fruit acidity is the result. Quite irresistible.
