Strange, surreal and esoteric the work of contemporary artist Belles Petit vividly captures the realm of the dream, through complex multi layered processes of illustration. Working at the intersection of the organic and the industrial, Belles Petit draws inspiration from the natural world, exploring the boundaries and contrasts between the human and the animal, the dream and the machine. Her latest work, ‘Wabi Sabi 2’, is inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of the same name, which centres around beauty in the imperfection and transience of life. The print merges images and fragments together blending the figurative with the graphic placing portents of death a skull alongside vibrant flora and fauna and finishing the piece with touches of soft gold leaf, for a delicate, textured effect.
