The Painted House By Bonnie and Clyde

The Painted House By Bonnie and Clyde

Bonnie and Clyde has mastered the art of mixed media collage, blending photography with fine art until the lines of distinction disappear. At first glance, her brightly coloured brushstrokes often depicting modernist architecture, expanses of sea, and palm tree lined streets are reminiscent of early Hockney. Closer inspection reveals the wealth of different techniques that Bonnie and Clyde has employed to unrivalled effect. ‘The Painted House’ was first released at the artrepublic Art Yard Sale on Sunday 5th June 2016, in which some of the biggest names in the contemporary art world came together in Brighton’s Jubilee Square, giving fans the chance to buy from the artists directly. ‘The Painted House’ is, quite simply, just what it says Bonnie and Clyde has taken a photograph of a house and then covered it with paint strokes, until little of the original photograph is discernible. The power of the image lies in its use of colour bold, primary blue, and bright, jungle green dominate the collage to startling effect. The use of clean, hard lines against the soft daubs of paint create a beautiful composition and an aesthetic which is strong and arresting.
