Yellow Buttons is one of five new print realises in Peter Blake’s ongoing Found Art series. This vintage button set from France is presented an object of beauty and interest beyond the brief glance we might give it if we were buying said buttons as a day to day domestic purchase. The regular layout of the buttons is reminiscent of the repeated images in Andy Warhol’s pop art prints, highlighting the relentless production of machine made culture. The use of digital printing enables Blake to capture the texture of each thread binding the button to the card, and the texture of that card. By enlarging this run of the mill object he urges us to re assess the objects and design we see around us, to question the boundaries of what should be considered ‘fine art’.
