Meet Tim Doyle, contemporary illustrator, print maker and king of ‘nerd cool’. Drawing inspiration from a life long love of comic books and video games, Doyle creates prints of inimitable style that incorporate cultural icons from the music industry to art house film into a graphic aesthetic like no other. ‘The Swan Song of Oren Ishii’ takes cult film Kill Bill and creates a striking print, in the detailed, illustrative style of a graphic novel. In a palette of ice grey and inky blue, Doyle depicts Oren Ishii, stood alone amongst Bonsai trees and falling snow flakes. The image has a gentle, haunting quality, evocative of the film, yet saturated with its own, artistic nuances. It’s a powerful snapshot, filled with painstaking detail, for a compelling piece of contemporary print work.
